Are electric bikes legal in the UK?
Yes, if they meet EAPC rules: a 250W motor, assistance cutting out at 15.5mph, and the rider is 14 or over.
Do I need a licence, tax or insurance?
No. A legal EAPC needs no licence, road tax or registration, and insurance is optional (though often sensible).
How fast can a UK e-bike go?
The motor must stop assisting at 15.5mph. You can pedal faster under your own power, but the motor will not push beyond that limit.
